"From the beginning of the year to 19 February, there has been a sharp reduction in the number of migrants disembarked in Italy, equal to about 65%, to date, compared to the same period last year and with a decrease also compared to the numbers recorded in 2022" . This was stated yesterday by Matteo Piantedosi, Minister of the Interior, during Question Time at Montecitorio. "It is reasonable to believe that we are in the presence of an objective positive signal when we consider that the current month is the fifth consecutive month in which there has been a significant reduction in landings compared to the same period of the previous year," stated the minister. "The primary goal of the government, and I emphasize this in memory of the 94 victims of the Cutro tragedy a year ago, has been to combat the shameful smuggling of migrants, beginning with the adoption of a series of legislative interventions all inspired by the need to affirm stricter compliance with migration rules".
