The last flights in the blue livery from the main London hub to Rome and Milan will be operated on Saturday, March 30th. For decades, Heathrow has been a flagship route from Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate. Landing at the most prestigious airport in the British capital has long been a status symbol for our national carrier. Because there, and not at Gatwick (not to mention Stansted), the major airlines land and take off. In the 1980s and 1990s, Alitalia operated some of its flights to Heathrow from Fiumicino and Linate, even with the Airbus A300, the wide-body aircraft with over 250 passengers.
