Tesla, an American vehicle manufacturer, is one of the companies that could potentially establish its presence in Italy. Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, confirmed the intention of drawing a second manufacturer to Italy, "since Stellantis alone is not enough". The government's goal is to promote the automotive industry, which in Italy has 2,200 firms and 167 thousand people, totaling 1.2 million direct and indirect employees and generating a revenue of 90 billion euros. "We certainly can't ask a single manufacturer to take charge of the Italian components agreement," the minister was quoted as saying. "This is why we are seeking to attract a new investor and have a second home that can take on the requirement to safeguard or contribute to safeguarding and strengthening the connected industries", taking advantage of "a highly favourable national ecosystem," stated Urso. "Residents of the city of Gruenheide, in eastern Germany, have overwhelmingly rejected a plan to massively expand Tesla's only European assembly plant," he told the European Parliament, "and this will certainly entail a review of the plans of the U.S. group with which we have been in dialogue for months".
