The investigation by the Perugia Public Prosecutor's Office into the abusive monitoring of confidential computer files of hundreds of individuals, including several politicians (including ministers), show business personalities and sports figures, ignites a political clash. Some 15 are under investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office led by Raffaele Cantone: among them are Guardia di Finanza lieutenant Pasquale Striano, serving in the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office, the alleged author of some 800 abusive accesses, many on figures close to the center-right, and Antonio Laudati, former deputy at the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office. Among those under investigation are three journalists from the newspaper Il Domani. The investigation stems from a complaint lodged by Defense Minister Guido Crosetto with the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office after an article published by the newspaper regarding fees received by the minister for consulting work he did, in the past, for the Leonardo company. National Antimafia Prosecutor Giovanni Melillo and Cantone, who is in charge of the investigation, will be heard at the Antimafia Commission (March 6 and 7, respectively) and Copasir.
