A 16-year-old boy, Markus Raffl, died under an avalanche while off-piste skiing in Plan in Val Passiria. The alarm was raised on Sunday evening by family members when the young man failed to return: shortly after 9 p.m., his body was later found. He is the second avalanche victim in recent days in South Tyrol: last Wednesday a 22-year-old German tourist had died under an avalanche during a ski mountaineering trip in Ratschings. Another avalanche has fallen in the Rhêmes Valley in the Aosta Valley, where the municipality of Rhêmes-Notre-Dame is isolated.
