As previously reported by Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, during a visit to Telespazio, the European Commission has formalized the Fucino Space Center as the primary control center for the next galaxy of European satellites, Iris 2. The remaining two centers will be in France and Luxembourg. A decision that is the recognition of the excellence of a site that since 2010 has already hosted the Galileo control center, the European satellite navigation and localization system, whose development required, in 2021, the construction of new control rooms and new operational areas. Iris 2 has a rather short timeline, as the EU commission should begin awarding the first tenders for this constellation of satellites, which is critical to our continent's security and digital sovereignty, before the end of the year.
