Yesterday, a 59-year-old man from Andria, Puglia, was sentenced to 8 years, 10 months, and twenty days in jail for allegedly attacking a 46-year-old man in the city on November 24 and biting off his left ear following a dispute over an improperly parked car. The decision came at the end of an abbreviated trial, which established that the man, accused of very serious injuries aggravated by futile reasons, will have to compensate the victim by paying a provisional amount of 10,000 euros for "deformation of appearance caused by permanent injuries to the face". According to the investigation's reconstruction, the 59-year-old argued with the victim, who accused him of improperly parking the car, preventing him from completing a maneuver. Following the insults, the slaps would continue until the claimed attacker grabbed the victim from behind and chewed off his ear. A passerby notified the emergency services, who also recovered the ear by placing it in a container. The 46-year-old was rescued and taken to the Bonomo hospital in Andria before being promptly transferred to the Plastic Surgery operating center in Bari, where he had delicate surgery. To back up the story, photographs captured by the area's video surveillance systems show the many stages of the disagreement and aggressiveness, from the quarrel over a badly parked car to the arrival of help for the rush to the hospital.
