A Singaporean semiconductor behemoth known as Silicon Box has disclosed a maximum investment of $3.2 billion for the construction of a new facility in Italy, which, when completely operational, will employ 1,600 individuals. The new facility will be located in Northern Italy, but the actual location is being kept hidden. Novara is one of the hypotheses being circulated. "We are still evaluating possible locations based on a number of factors such as context, infrastructure, the presence of research institutes and universities, but we expect to start the investment in the coming months and in any case within the year," said Bj Han, co-founder and chief executive officer of the company. This is the largest initiative so far pursued by the government as part of the national microelectronics plan, which, with a total budget of 3.3 billion euros, aims to increase Italy's production footprint in this important area. "The recent global upheavals underscore the need to build a more resilient supply chain for semiconductors in Europe," said Enterprise Minister Adolfo Urso.
