Fortunato Ortombina, who was born in Mantua in 1960 and is currently the superintendent of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, will become the Teatro alla Scala's new superintendent. The statement was made by Mayor Beppe Sala, head of the Milanese Symphonic Opera Foundation. The mayor and the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano (in charge of the appointment), have struck an agreement. Ortombina is popular in the Lombardy Region led by the League (as well as in the Veneto Region led by Carroccio, which has confirmed him for a long time at the top of the lagoon theater), the center-right, particularly Minister of Regional Affairs Maria Elisabetta Casellati (who has a son who conducts orchestras, Alvise Casellati), and the center-left. Following three foreign superintendents - Stephane Lissner, Alexander Pereira, and Dominique Meyer - many hoped that an Italian would return to lead La Scala. The forthcoming days will witness the official designation of Ortombina as the forthcoming superintendent of the preeminent Italian theater, overseeing the five-year tenure from 2025 to 2030.
