The year 2023 is confirmed as a positive year for tourism, a sector that seems to have managed to recover from the severe crisis experienced in the-Covid era: further confirmation comes from Bank of Italy data, which for last year indicate a 17% growth in spending by foreign visitors to Italy (from 44.254 billion to 51.591 billion). Tourist outlays (i.e., spending by Italian travelers abroad) are also growing: up 21 percent. The tourism balance (the balance between the two items) shows a surplus of 20.2 billion euros, a figure better than 2022 and 2019, the last year not affected by the pandemic crisis. "In terms of impact on GDP," Bankitalia calculates, "the surplus rose to 1.0 percent, the same as in 2019. As for nationalities, Germans are confirmed as the most loyal to the Belpaese (12.4 million arrivals), followed by French and Austrians. The vigorous recovery of the tourist flow from the United States continues, both in terms of travelers (up from 2.9 to 4.05 million) and spending (6.49 billion euros, +38.5 percent). On the other hand, for their trips, Italians prefer Spain, first in terms of overnight stays (nearly 40 million) with an expenditure of 3.29 billion euros, followed by the United States (3 billion euros in spending).
