School closed for the Easter holidays but also for the end of Ramadan. It happens in Pioltello, in the Milan area, at the Istituto Comprensivo Iqbhal Masih. For the first time in Italy, primary and secondary school children will stay home on Wednesday, April 10, to coincide with the Muslim holiday. The School Board's decision has caused quite a bit of controversy. "In Pioltello we have classes where in past years on the occasion of the end of Ramadan, in fact, only three or four came to school," explained Headmaster Alessandro Fanfoni. "Children of the Islamic faith are the majority, and despite the fact that the guidelines on inclusion recommend forming classes with no more than 30 percent foreigners, we arrive at 43 percent because this is our population. We cannot close our eyes to these numbers and reality. This celebration is a tradition for many of them, among other things are often their Italian classmates, who participate to share”.
