After the presidential elections in Russia, Lega leader and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini commented on Vladimir Putin's victory this way: "They voted, we take note. When people vote they are always right, elections always do good, both when one wins them and when one loses them”. The Minister of Infrastructure continued, “When I lose them, I try to understand where I went wrong and how to do better next time. There were elections, we took note of the Russian citizens' vote, hoping that 2024 will be the year of peace". Harsh retort, however, from the other Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Tajani: "Foreign policy is made by the Foreign Minister. I have nothing to add to what I said. The elections were characterized by strong and even violent pressure. Navalny was excluded from these elections by murder, we saw the images of soldiers in the ballot box, it does not seem to me that it is an election that meets the criteria that we meet”.
