Becoming a father for the first time is an experience that Italian men continue to move further and further ahead in time, more so than in other European countries. In fact, the most recent Istat data show that in Italy people become fathers on average at 35.8 years of age, while in France at 33.9 years, in Germany at 33.2, and in England and Wales at 33.7. This is an increasingly frequent phenomenon compared to the past, which would affect about 70% of new Italian fathers: this means that 1 in 3 men is still childless beyond the age of 36.
