"The National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Coronavirus Epidemic draws the attention of our community to the terrible suffering faced during the pandemic and is a chance for everyone to mourn with the families of the many who have died due to the pervasive spread of Covid-19". This is the introduction of a message of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, commemorating the anniversary. "A tumultuous juncture in the recent history of our nation and the entire world, the crisis has evoked images of a harrowing encounter with the difficulties confronting humanity and the manner in which they have been surmounted solely through a coordinated international response—the European Union playing a leading role in expediting the application of the most recent scientific findings—that have come to light in this regard. The collective memory has been marked, and it is appropriate to recall how the collaborative and supporting efforts of institutions at all levels, health workers, volunteers, and civil society enabled the elimination of an intangible enemy in the name of global rebirth. On this day, the Republic remembers the victims of the epidemic and expresses its deepest condolences to all family members".
