Italian enterprises involved in the supply chain for alternative energy sources continue to expand. Last year, they totaled 37,655, up 13.2% from 2022 (almost 4,400 more). The majority of the enterprises are involved in photovoltaics (74.4%), followed by wind power (37.1%) and bioenergy (i.e. biomass and biogas) at 23.2%. On the other side, the proportion of enterprises functioning in the hydroelectric, geothermal, and solar thermal industries is lower. In terms of distribution across different sectors, the following organizations stand out: installation and maintenance firms (39.2%), energy production enterprises (13.8%), trade (12.3%), manufacturing (9.6%), rental and real estate management (6.4%), and consultancy, testing, and monitoring activities (6.1%). In terms of geographical distribution, Lombardy leads with 6,035 enterprises, or 16% of the national total, followed by Lazio, Campania, Sicily, and Veneto. Italy, with 3% of global exports, is the sixth largest exporter of renewable technologies.
