"In recent days, there has been a lot of talk about the proposal put forward by France about a possible direct intervention of troops from European Union nations in Ukraine: our position is in no way favorable to this hypothesis, which we regard as a harbinger of a dangerous escalation that must be avoided at all costs. I trust that this parliament will agree with us on this subject". This is what Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in her communications to the Senate ahead of the European Council on 21 and 22 March, which will discuss the war in Ukraine, common security and defence, Gaza, EU enlargement, external relations, migration, agriculture and the European Semester. Meloni also commented on the issue of Giulio Regeni: "We do not intend to interrupt the search for the truth about the case of Giulio Regeni, as demonstrated by the trial underway in Italy, which the Government follows very carefully and with respect to which we have become a civil party".
