During a concert he insulted Giorgia Meloni, now prosecutors want to try Placebo leader Brian Molko but do not know where he resides. The incident had occurred on July 11, 2023 during the Stupinigi Sonic Park festival in the Turin area. The rocker had called the Prime Minister a "fascist" and "Nazi”, adding a series of insults as well. He now faces trial in Turin on charges of defamation and contempt. Prosecutors have closed the investigation, but must await the outcome of an international letter rogatory to locate Molko's domicile, which is reported to reside in London, and serve the proceedings. This is not the first time Brian Molko has been noted in Italy for some of his over-the-top outings. In 2001, with Placebo as guests at the Sanremo Festival, Molko smashed his guitar on the amplifier at the end of their performance. A normal (and indeed exalted by fans) gesture in a concert, it was seen as a headbutt by the palatial Ariston audience who began to insolently sing along to a chorus of "dumb dummy”.
