"For five months the situation in Gaza has been a humanitarian catastrophe. We have allocated 20 million euros for urgent humanitarian needs and demining. These funds include a contribution for our civil society organization, 2 million euros to be used in new projects in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. We are focusing especially on food security in Gaza, the most immediate need. The food intake has been absolutely insufficient and added to that is the difficulty in distribution within the Strip. We can provide added value for two reasons: the extraordinary Italian experience in the sector and the presence in Rome of the UN food hub". Thus Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, responding to Question Time yesterday in the House. "On March 11," he added, "we launched at the Farnesina the Food for Gaza initiative, with the heads of FAO, WFP, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent, Civil Defense and the Italian Red Cross. The main indication is to strengthen the entry of humanitarian aid by land but also to collaborate for aid by sea with the Cyprus-based maritime humanitarian corridor. The initiative was presented to the Israeli and Palestinian foreign ministers and illustrated to the EU Foreign Affairs Council. We garnered party support and appreciation from Blinken as well”.
