Today the Italian wine industry is worth 31.3 billion euros, with 530 thousand companies and about 870 thousand employees. Within days, its main exhibition will reopen. Between April 14 and 17, 1,200 top-buyers, selected from 65 countries, will move through the halls of the 56th edition of Vinitaly. These are importers and distributors serving major foreign markets. Compared to 2023, their presence has grown by 20 percent, but has even risen by 70 percent over 2022, which was heavily affected by the pandemic. The "bulk buyers" will be joined by another 30,000 foreign operators, who will converge on the Verona city's exhibition center from more than 140 nations. They will all be hosted in Verona. The largest contingent arrives from the U.S. market with more than 15 percent of the arrivals; they are followed by operators from three other strategic marketplaces - Canada, China and the UK - which together add up to 23 percent of the arrivals.
