More and more dads are choosing to stay home to care for their newborn children thanks to the parental leave law. According to Save the Children, which released research on INPS data, the rate of paternity leave use in Italy has more than tripled between 2013 and 2022. Higher numbers of fathers take it in northern provinces and lower in southern provinces and among those with higher incomes. Thus, there is an increase in the sharing of parental responsibilities between mothers and fathers, for motherhood to no longer be an obstacle to women's access to the world of work. Fathers are more likely to take paternity leave if they work in medium to large companies. Among those with more than 100 employees, in fact, utilization is 77 percent, while it drops to 45.2 percent in companies with 15 employees or fewer. In short, fathers' involvement in childcare is changing, albeit slowly, even in Italy, in favor of more shared responsibilities.
