Sixty percent of Italians have a vague idea of what lobbying means, but only 30 percent know exactly what it is. According to a survey, lobbying activities are associated with the concepts of: influence; special interests; and non-transparent lobbying. This is followed, at a great distance, by indications such as: eliciting attention; gathering information; preparing technical framing on issues. Sixty percent also believe that lobbying is legal but needs to be regulated; for 10 percent this is fine. It is noted, however, that 1/3 of the sample (informed about the issue) reports that this activity is illegal and prohibited. Overall, the survey highlights a tendentially negative view of lobbying activity. At the same time, there is support for regulation of the sector and a demand for more knowledge about its activities and functions.
