€10.8 million was seized from former senator of Il Popolo della Libertà and before that of Forza Italia, Marcello Dell'Utri, a close collaborator of Silvio Berlusconi. The Florence investigating magistrate imposed the action at the request of the Tuscan capital's anti-mafia district prosecutor. According to the prosecution, Dell'Utri, who was convicted of external membership in a mafia-type organization, was required by the Rognoni-Latorre law to notify income changes totaling more than 42 and a half million. However, he would not have done it, hence the precautionary seizure. The Florence prosecutor's office announced the millionaire seizure with a note: the real precautionary measure, it is explained, "is part of the framework of criminal proceedings subject to a broader investigative coordination, carried out, at national level, by the National Anti-Mafia Directorate, aimed at identifying the external instigators of the continental massacres of 1993-1994". Inquiries in which "various investigations were conducted concerning the financial flows concerning Marcello Dell'Utri from 2014 to the present" .The real precautionary measure, as explained in the note, was requested and obtained because "the suspect, with several actions and omissions, at different times, in execution of the same criminal plan, despite being required to do so" failed "to communicate" within the terms established by law, the patrimonial changes indicated in art. 30 of the same legislation for a total amount of 42,679,200 euros".
