The Milan Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the crime of "trade in harmful food substances" based on the discovery of some "foreign bodies," specifically glass fragments, in food served by Milano Ristorazione, a municipal company, in the city's school canteens. At the moment, the legal representative of the subcontractor and manufacturer of the "contaminated" bread is being investigated. There were three incidences that occurred in two different schools between the end of February and the beginning of March. Milano Ristorazione recently removed bread from all school canteens following the finding of such particles inside some michettas. The analysis conducted throughout the investigation revealed that it was glass rather than plastic, as previously reported. Milano Ristorazione, which is not currently under investigation in the case, provides school meal service to kindergartens, primary, and lower secondary schools. Since March 11, the municipal company has cut off the supply of bread, which has been temporarily substituted by sliced white bread for all kindergarten users and breadsticks for all kindergarten, primary, and lower secondary students.
