More than 62,000 people gathered in Milan's Piazza Duomo on Sunday, March 24, to participate in the 51st edition of Stramilano 2024, a historic city race that includes two competitions of 21 kilometers for professionals and 8 kilometers for amateurs. Kicking off the races, however, at 8:30 a.m., was the Stramilano Half Marathon in which as many as 8,000 professional athletes participated, an all-time record for the competition, competing this year on an unprecedented 21-kilometer course. Kenyan dominance in the half marathon saw Kimtai Antony, class of 1998, win with 1:00:31. He was closely followed by Towett Vincent Kimutai, who arrived at the final line in 1:00:41. The men's podium was closed by Waithira Simon Mwangi with 1:00:43. Great race for the Italians who, with Francesco Guerra (C.S Carabinieri Sez.) tenth with a time of 1:03:19, entered the top10. Intense race for women as well, with Genaneh Anchinalu Dessie winning in 1:07:55 from Ethiopia, followed by Michira Morine Gesare with a time of 1:08:13 and Parlov Kostro Matea, third in 1:11:14. Incredible performance of Elisa Palmero who with 1:11:40 finished fourth and first among the Italians in the race.
