There are few women in Italian fashion management. A lot of progress has been made, but according to the 2024 report by Mediobanca's Research Area, less than one-third of the women on fashion boards in Italy would be women. With a female weight of 31 percent on fashion house boards, Italy is surpassed by France, still undefeated with 50 percent of 'pink positions' on boards, and the United States (40 percent). Behind Italy, Germany scores 29 percent, and Japan, with only 10 percent of women represented on its fashion boards. According to research by PwC Italy on the presence of women throughout the Italian fashion supply chain, women make up a large part of the clerical sector, with a slice of 67.3 percent, and of the labor force, counting 57.8 percent female workers. The percentages drop significantly as one approaches the top of the pyramid, where their presence still remains a minority. And the more prestigious and prominent the roles, the fewer women are encountered.
