"This year, Italy manufactured 51% of the world's yachts, with over 600 ships out of a total of 1,200. As Sanlorenzo, we manufacture 80 boats per year." This was declared by Massimo Perotti, President and CEO of Sanlorenzo. The entire sales of the nautical sector in Italy achieved an all-time high of 7.33 billion euros. This broke the previous record of $6.18 billion, set in 2008, before to the Great Recession. The percentage of destination for national production items is of major interest: up to 77% are actually directed outside, evenly divided between European Union and non-EU countries. A output of around 1.47 billion euros is sold on the domestic market. The Italian nautical industry is divided into several sub-sectors, including shipbuilding, construction and import of new pleasure craft, refit, repair and storage, accessories and components, and engines. 65.5% of the activities are dedicated on shipbuilding, which includes the production and import of new units.
