Alessandro Michele is the new creative director of Valentino. The former Gucci designer takes over the helm of the fashion house from April 2nd, following the surprise departure of Pierpaolo Piccioli, who left the reins of Piazza Mignanelli after 25 years. "It is a great honor for me to be welcomed into the Maison Valentino. I feel immense joy and enormous responsibility in entering a Maison de Couture that has engraved the word 'beauty' in a collective history made of refinement and extreme grace - Michele's words on his Instagram account - To this story goes my first thought: to the richness of its cultural and symbolic heritage, to the sense of wonder it has constantly generated, to the precious identity that its founding fathers, Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti, have given it with boundless love. These are references that have always represented for me an indispensable source of inspiration and to which I intend to pay homage by reinterpreting them through my creative vision. Today I seek the most suitable words to express joy, to pay tribute to them: the smiles that kick in the chest, the sense of profound gratitude that lights up the eyes, that precious moment when necessity and beauty shake hands. Joy, however, is so alive that I fear hurting it by speaking it. May my deep bow with open arms be enough to celebrate, in this beginning of spring, the life that regenerates and the promise of new blossoms."
