Ten million Italians are choosing the train for the Easter vacations. The main destination is southern Italy, which leads long-distance train bookings, with Puglia, Calabria and Campania topping the list of favorite places of interest. Many Italians have decided to travel to art cities such as Venice. Villages and sites of cultural interest, particularly in Piedmont, Veneto, Tuscany, Umbria, Campania and Sicily, are instead the favorite destinations for those traveling by regional trains. According to the Italian Federation of Travel and Tourism Business Associations, 15% of Italians who go into a travel agency to buy a package for Easter choose mid-range, while the rest opt for Italy. Almost no one chooses destinations that are too far abroad (only 5%) for such a short vacation period, although some far-flung destinations in the spring period are very successful, such as the Maldives and the ever-attractive cities of the U.S., but there is also a great comeback of Japan, which is stimulating travelers with the Expo nomination.
