"While calling for respect for the principles of international law, I call for a general exchange of all prisoners between Russia and Ukraine: all for all! In addition, I again appeal for guaranteed access for humanitarian aid to Gaza, urging again for a prompt release of the hostages kidnapped on October 7 and an immediate ceasefire in the Strip". These were the words of Pope Francis in his Easter message, greeted by loud applause from the thousands of faithful present in St. Peter's Square. Pope Francis continued thus: "Today we turn our gaze first of all to the Holy City of Jerusalem, witness to the mystery of Jesus' passion, death and resurrection, and to all the Christian communities of the Holy Land. My thoughts go especially to the victims of the many conflicts that are ongoing in the world, beginning with those in Israel and Palestine, and in Ukraine. May the Risen Christ open a way of peace for the martyred peoples of those regions".
