Italian literature historian Amedeo Quondam, a great specialist on the Renaissance, with important studies on the civilization of European courts and on the figure of the gentleman courtier, professor emeritus of "La Sapienza" University, has died at the age of 80. He was one of the greatest Italianists of recent decades, a world-recognized master, author of indispensable studies on Italian literature of all centuries. After winning the tenure competition as full professor in 1976 in Cagliari, he taught Italian Literature at La Sapienza from 1978 to 2013, when he was appointed professor emeritus. He was among the founders in 1996 of the Association of Italianists, of which he was elected secretary and then president for two terms from 2005 to 2011.
