It has been an armored Easter this year. The alert is high for terrorism, especially Islamic terrorism, and for this reason in Rome police officers in recent days have been manning strategic points in the city. The most controlled places have been the most crowded ones, and tourist and commercial areas including the historic center. Special observers were also put in religious points of interest, from the Vatican to the Basilica of St. Paul. Also strengthened was the control and monitoring device on the subways, at train stations and at the airport. There were monitoring and emergency response activities with "mobile garrisons" in the areas outside the parks and historic villas that are the object of the traditional picnic: in particular Villa Borghese, Villa Pamphilj, the Aqueducts Park, and the Felice Aqueduct Park. Many were false alarms.
