Prestigious recognition for the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System and Research (ANVUR), which ast March 28 obtained the status of accredited agency by the WFME (World Federation for Medical Education - www.wfme.org), the International Organization of reference for medical education, co-founded by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Medical Association - (WMA) - having as its primary objective the constant improvement of the quality of medical education globally, also through the definition of quality standards on which accreditation activities are based. The recognition obtained by ANVUR will be valid for 10 years (until March 31, 2034), for being able to "operate according to appropriately formulated standards, applied in policies and procedures designed to ensure the quality of medical education in the programs and schools it accredits". These are the reasons behind the letter signed by WFME President Professor Ricardo León-Bórquez. The recognition comes in the wake of a long journey that ANVUR began in November 2020 and that - after several stages of work and preparation for the visit - saw a group of international experts appointed by WFME analyze the Agency's evaluation procedures, producing a detailed report that the WFME Board used for its final decision. A source of pride and merit for ANVUR. The WFME title is, in fact, awarded to agencies in charge of quality assurance following verification that they meet strict evaluation criteria that take into account expertise, reliability, authority and adherence to international standards. This recognition will allow medical school graduates from Italian universities to be able to continue their residency training in the United States of America.
