If we look at the data for the first quarter of 2024, Italy is in first place overall, with $49.5 billion in green bond issuances, followed by France, with $28.7 billion in new bonds, Germany with $23 billion, and China, with a value of $21.7 billion but first place in terms of the number of issuances (and thus a lower average amount), with 127. The "Corriere della Sera" reported on data collected by Climate Bond Initiatives, a World Bank agency based in Washington that promotes green bonds. One of the hallmarks of the Italian green bond market is the substantial presence of corporate issuers, with Enel alone accounting for 63% of issuances. The first quarter of 2024 saw unusually high numbers: in January, new bonds were issued worth about $80 billion, in February for $51 billion, and in March for $46 billion.
