With a captivating narrative, Christie's will auction off Titian's work on July 2nd. Orlando Rock, the president of Christie's, stated in an interview with Corriere della Sera that the renowned work "Rest on the Flight into Egypt" has been stolen twice, once by Napoleon and again in the 1990s. Throughout history, it has been associated with esteemed periods and rulers. The picture, an early Titian work, returns to the market after being sold at Christie's more than 145 years ago in 1878. It is one of the few religious works from Titian's early years that is remaining in private hands, and it is expected to fetch between £15 million and £25 million at auction (equivalent to around €17 million to €30 million). The picture, which dates back to roughly 1510, was first documented in the early seventeenth century in the possession of Bartolomeo della Nave, a Venetian trader active in the spice trade who held a large collection that included at least fifteen other works by Titian. At the time, the picture was valued at around £200 (around 235 euros).
