Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz yesterday at the Foreign Ministry for an operational meeting on the "Food for Gaza" initiative, which the Deputy Prime Minister launched last month in Rome in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. "I presented the 'Food for Gaza' initiative to Minister Katz at a meeting attended by all the actors involved to demand that Israel open more land crossings and immediately make the maritime corridor operational to facilitate the arrival in the Gaza Strip of essential goods for the population, in particular food aid, as well as basic health goods," commented the Deputy Prime Minister, adding that "we are extremely alarmed by the very serious situation on the ground and the initiative we have put in place aims to actively contribute to avoiding a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza". "I also proposed to Minister Katz to have a representative of the Israeli Embassy in Rome participate in the Food for Gaza technical table to further improve the coordination and effectiveness of the instrument," Tajani said, emphasizing how Katz immediately accepted the proposal, calling the Italian initiative 'a model'.
