Already held in the collection of Cindy and Howard Rachofsky, a Lucio Fontana work, Spatial concept, The End of God, will go up for auction at Sotheby's New York on May 15: the egg-shaped, openwork, yellow canvas will be offered with an estimate of $20-30 million, and the sale could set a record for the Arte Povera master. Another work in the same series and color sold for $29.2 million in 2015. The canvas is on display at Sotheby's in Milan until April 11. The iconography of the egg is well known to art history, encapsulating the idea of birth, love and absolute perfection. From the Renaissance with Piero della Francesca to the contemporary era with Constantin Brancusi, Andy Warhol, Piero Manzoni and Jeff Koons, many artists have wanted to give us their own interpretation of the egg.
