The 31-year-old driver of the SUV that collided with the service car carrying the three carabinieri on Saturday evening on state route 91 between Eboli and Campagna, in the province of Salerno, tested positive for alcohol and cocaine. Marshal Francesco Pastore, 25, and Francesco Ferraro, 27, both of Apulian heritage, died in the accident, while a third carabiniere, Marshal Paolo Volpe, 29, was critically injured. The woman, who was in the car with an 18-year-old woman, also collided with another automobile, hurting a fourth person, a 75-year-old man who was sent to Cardelli Hospital in Naples with a reserved prognosis. The Salerno Public Prosecutor's Office has charged her with road homicide.
