Essilor Luxottica has completed the acquisition of Washin Optical, a Japanese optical retailer with about 70 direct outlets across the country. Toru Negishi founded Washin in 1951, launching the first store in Urawa, Saitama Prefecture. Washin stores are primarily found in the Kanto area and major shopping districts such as Ginza and Shinjuku in Tokyo. The acquisition of Washin paves the way for additional investments in Japan while also confirming the Italian group's commitment to expanding its retail activities in the country, where it already operates approximately 70 stores under the Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Oliver Peoples brands as well as in department stores, serving thousands of optical customers and partners. EssilorLuxottica has made a recent investment in Japanese manufacturing through the acquisition of Fukui Megane, an establishment situated in the historic Fukui optical district, which is dedicated to Made in Japan production.
