Voluntary homicides consumed in Italy in the four-year period 2020-2023 record a 15% increase. This is according to data on crime trends in Italy released on the occasion of the celebration of the 172nd anniversary of the State Police. In 2023, there were a total of 329 voluntary homicides, of which 119 victims were women (in 2022, there were a total of 326, of which 128 were women). In 2021, there were 309 and the previous year 287. In the case of homicides with female victims, however, the overall figure remains almost unchanged, while those committed in the family/affective sphere show a decrease of 5%; in addition, for women killed at the hands of their partners or ex-partners, this decrease stands at 9%.
