One hundred thousand copies of an insert of Repubblica were destroyed due to an editorial choice by Maurizio Molinari. In light of this, Termometro Politico asked Italians whether censorship existed in the media. For 40.4% this exists and is mainly linked to big Italian and international business interests, which are capable of filtering and distorting news. A sizeable 25% believe in the existence of censorship, but they think it is mainly political (not economic) and that ideas furthest from those of the major government or opposition parties do not find space. Total: 65.4%, practically 2 out of 3 people believe there is censorship in Italy. On the other hand, 30.9% believe that, however imperfect, there is still democracy in Italy and media of all orientations are present, and therefore censorship is limited.
