The man who teaches English to the world is an Italian who lived first in the United States and then for a long time in Brazil before returning to base himself in Milan, with a home and family he usually sees only on weekends. Giovanni "Gio" Giovannelli, 51, born in Prato, economics studies at Bocconi and Ph.D. in the U.S., five languages spoken, is President of the "English Language Learning" division of the Anglo-Saxon giant Pearson, which teaches English in 150 countries around the world and to an audience of one and a half billion people. Joining Pearson as a manager of a company acquired in Brazil, Giovannelli was first responsible for that country, "then for emerging markets, including China, India, Latin America and South Africa, and again for the international division, which operated in all the group's countries except the United States and Great Britain”. Finally, with the division of the group into "vertical" sectors, he was responsible for English worldwide.
