The Florence Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a file with the crime hypothesis of manslaughter regarding the death of 26-year-old soccer player Mattia Giani. Giani played for Castelfiorentino and on Sunday, April 14, he had fallen ill during a game with Lanciotto: he later died the following Monday morning at Careggi Hospital. There are currently no persons listed in the register of suspects. An autopsy has been ordered, which will be held next Thursday or Friday. The breakthrough to the death investigation file came after statements also made by family members to Carabinieri. Giani's parents have been heard as informed persons, and no formal complaint appears to have been filed with the prosecutor's office at this time.
