Last night's derby victory handed Inter the 2023-24 Serie A title with five games to spare. The 2-1 win against Milan was enough to secure Simone Inzaghi's lineup the Italian championship once again after 2020-21. Most importantly, it allows the Nerazzurri to adorn their jersey with the second star, symbolizing their twentieth Serie A title. The recognition is inspired by the Star of Sporting Merit, an honor conferred by the National Olympic Committee, which the National League requested to introduce to the Federal Council of the FIGC. This was established by a resolution in May 1958, creating a "particular badge that clubs who have won 10 National Division Serie A championships can and will be entitled to wear." Juventus was the first to be entitled to wear the star alongside the league title in 1958, and since then, the five-pointed gold star has become the symbol of winning 10 league titles. Eight years later, Helenio Herrera's Inter became the second Italian team to be able to sew the star onto their jersey following their victory in the 1965-66 season, while Milan won their tenth league title and the accompanying star with the 1978-79 Serie A victory, finishing three points ahead of Perugia, the first team to remain unbeaten throughout an entire season. After Inter's twelfth league title win in the following season, Juventus was again in the spotlight with back-to-back victories in 1980-81 and 1981-82, which awarded them the second star, while Juventus received the third star at the end of the 2013-14 season, achieved with 102 points under Antonio Conte's management. And now, with the conquest of the twentieth league title, Inter will finally be able to display the second star on their jersey.
