Arianna Errigo and Gianmarco Tamber will carry Italy's flag at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The president of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, declared this before the National Council of the Committee. Arianna Errigo, a multiple fencing champion who won gold in team foil and individual silver in London 2012, team bronze in Tokyo 2020, and is the mother of twins Mirea and Stefano, will succeed Valentina Vezzali, the Italian standard carrier in London. Tamberi, on the other hand, Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020 and reigning world and European champion in the high jump, succeeds Pietro Mennea, who competed in Seoul 1988. It is the second time in the history of the Summer Olympics that the Italy Team chooses two flag-bearers, reflecting the IOC's efforts to promote gender equality among athletes: Jessica Rossi (shooting) and Elia Viviani (cycling) did so in Tokyo 2020. Errigo and Tamberi will receive the Italian flag from President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella on June 13 at 11 a.m. at the Quirinale, along with the Italian Paralympic Committee's flag carriers. The two standard bearers are scheduled to parade along the Seine on Friday, July 26 for the renowned opening ceremony.
