A new earthquake struck the Naples area of Campania at dawn Sunday. The quake was recorded at 5:55 a.m. with epicenter on Mount Vesuvius, 6 km from Portici and 7 km from Torre del Greco, and hypocenter on the surface, 0 km deep. This is confirmed by data from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). The earthquake came 24 hours after the 3.9-magnitude one in the Campi Flegrei, with epicenter in the sea between Bacoli and Pozzuoli. A portion of residents in the Vesuvian municipalities felt the telluric movement, especially those living in apartments on higher floors. This is not the only tremor recorded by INGV instrumentation in the crater area: two other earthquakes of lower magnitude occurred at 6:17 a.m. (magnitude 1.9) and 6:19 a.m. (magnitude 1.0).
