The dream of seeing Jannik Sinner holding the Internazionali d'Italia trophy suddenly shattered on a dreary Saturday afternoon. Like a bolt out of the blue, the 22-year-old from Sesto Pusteria announced his withdrawal from the ATP Masters 1000 scheduled in Rome after hip problems surfaced in Madrid. The withdrawal on Spanish soil had not simply been a tactical move to focus on the capital tournament, but a more serious injury than expected. "It is not easy to write this message but after talking again with doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome. Obviously I am very sad not to have recovered as it is one of my favorite tournaments ever. I was really looking forward to coming back and playing at home in front of the Italian public," Sinner wrote on X. I will still come to Rome for a few days and spend time at the Foro Italico. Thank you for your messages of support that I appreciate so much! Now I will work with my team and doctors to be ready for Roland Garros”.
