54.2% of Italians feel a sense of downgrading, the distinct feeling of going backward in the social ladder. This is felt by 48.4% of the self-affluent middle class, 66.7% of the working class, and even 42.2% of the affluent. This is followed by 45.7% of executives, 54.5% of entrepreneurs and merchants, 50% of office workers, teachers, and intermediate professions, and 59.1% of blue-collar workers. In addition, 59.7% of Italians feel that their standard of living is falling, as well as specifically 53.4% in the middle class, 74.4% in the working class, and 40% among the well-off. Still, a declining standard of living is perceived by 74.4% of incomes up to 15,000 euros, 63.6% between 15,000 and 35,000 euros, 52.1% between 35,000 and 50,000 euros, and 40.3% of incomes of 50,000 euros and more. These are the findings of the Censis-Cida survey "The Value of the Middle Class for the Economy and Society," presented at the Chamber.
