Chico Forti met his 96-year-old mother in Trento yesterday, after getting permission from the judges. Forti, led by penitentiary police who transported him from Verona prison, where he had been incarcerated since Sunday, arrived in Piazza General Cantore, where his mother lives, with a special 4-hour pass. Waiting for him on the street were his uncle Gianni, who has never ceased fighting for his nephew's return to Italy after 24 years of captivity in the United States, his brother Stefano, friends, supporters of spontaneous committees, and hundreds of Cristo Re residents. "The first thing he said to his mom was, 'Mom, I love you. I am here for you. She was very excited", remarked her uncle Gianni, never leaving the house's entryway. "Between kisses and hugs, she wanted to make him dumplings right away, but he assured her he wasn't hungry and that he had already eaten. I only feel sorry for my brother, Chico's father, who is no longer with us. But I'm delighted I was able to keep my promise to him: "I have him, and we brought him home".
