Yesterday morning, after more than 15 months spent in Gyorskocsi Utca maximum security prison in Budapest, Ilaria Salis was released and transferred to where she will serve house arrest pending the conclusion of her trial. The woman’s father expressed his relief at finally being able to re-embrace his daughter, hoping that this is only a temporary step before her return to Italy. Ilaria Salis was arrested on February 11, 2023, along with two German anti-fascist activists on charges of participating in two attacks against three far-right militants and being part of a criminal organization. The Budapest court recently accepted the appeal filed by her lawyers, granting her house arrest with the use of an electronic bracelet and subject to the posting of a €40,000 bail. The transfer of funds from Italy last week allowed her release from prison. A third hearing in his trial is scheduled for Friday.
