First visit to Turin by the U.S. Ambassador to Italy, Jack Markell. The American diplomat met with the new president of the Union of Industrialists of Turin, Marco Gay, and the president of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, who welcomed him at the Grattacielo. Markell, who has been ambassador in Rome since May 2023, previously served two terms as governor of his home state, Delaware, from 2009 to 2017. Before beginning his political career, he held significant roles in the private sector, including at Nextel, Comcast, and McKinsey. During his meeting with Gay, discussions also covered potential investments by American companies in Piedmont. With Cirio, Ambassador Markell discussed the current economic relations between Piedmont and the United States, which are crucial for both exports and tourism.
